JERUSALEM, June 2 (Xinhua) -- The Israeli Ministry of Health on Tuesday reported 116 new COVID-19 cases, the highest daily rise since May 1 when 155 infections were confirmed.
This brings the total number of COVID-19 cases in Israel to 17,285, the ministry said.
The ministry also reported five new deaths from the respiratory disease, the highest rise in daily fatalities since May 11.
The number of patients in serious condition dropped from 32 to 28, the lowest since March 22, out of 106 patients currently hospitalized.
The number of recoveries rose to 14,940, with 62 new recoveries, while the number of active cases increased to 2,055.
Earlier on Tuesday, Israel's Health Minister Yuli Edelstein said Israel would expand the number of coronavirus tests, including tests for asymptomatic people.
He added that Israel would also expand the capacity of daily coronavirus tests from 15,000 to 30,000 within two months.
