BEIRUT, June 3 (Xinhua) -- Lebanese President Michel Aoun on Wednesday called for the renewal of the mandate of the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) without any modifications to their duties and responsibilities.

Aoun made the remarks during his meeting with ambassadors of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council to convey Lebanon's serious stance over the role of the UNIFIL.

In May, Israeli UN Ambassador Danny Danon said Israel wants UN peacekeepers to have access to all sites, adding the UN Security Council must be immediately informed of any block of their freedom of movement.

"Maintaining stability in the south remains the responsibility of the Lebanese government and the Lebanese army, and the army is committed to providing all necessary facilities for the UNIFIL as required to carry out its tasks," Aoun said during the meeting.

The UNIFIL's mandate will expire in August.
