BEIJING, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

JERUSALEM -- Israel's ministry of health reported 4,300 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, bringing the total to 187,902.

The number of death cases reached 1,256, with 30 new fatalities, while the number of patients in serious condition rose from 604 to a record high of 643.

LONDON -- British Health Secretary Matt Hancock said Sunday that Britain is facing a "tipping point" regarding the coronavirus pandemic and more restrictions are possible to cope with the spread of virus.

"We face a choice. If everybody follows the rules -- and we'll be increasingly stringent on the people who are not following the rules -- then we can avoid further national lockdowns," Hancock told the BBC.

BEIRUT -- Lebanon registered on Sunday the highest daily increase in COVID-19 infections of 1,006, raising the total number to 29,303, while death toll went up by 11 to 297, the Health Ministry reported.

Caretaker Health Minister Hamad Hassan urged authorities to impose complete lockdown in the country for two weeks in an attempt to reduce the number of infections, especially as the country's health sector has limited capabilities.

CHANGCHUN -- A sample of an imported frozen seafood package has tested positive for COVID-19 in Changchun, capital of northeast China's Jilin Province, local authorities said Sunday.

The sample, imported from Russia, tested positive during a regular COVID-19 screening Friday and the result was confirmed by the municipal center for disease control and prevention Saturday.
