SHARAN, Afghanistan -- A police district chief was killed and two others injured as a blast targeted a police van in Sar Hawza district of Afghanistan's eastern Paktika province on Wednesday, provincial police spokesman Shah Mohammad Arian has confirmed.
The Taliban militants launched massive offensive on checkpoints in Dewana Baba area of the restive district late Tuesday night, triggering heavy fighting which lasted for a couple of hours, the official said, adding that the district police chief Juma Khan was going to lead the war but a blast struck his van killing him on the spot and injuring two others. ISLAMABAD -- Four soldiers were killed and six others injured in an attack by Afghan terrorists near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in Pakistan's southwest Balochistan province on Wednesday, a Pakistani army statement said.
The attack took place when Pakistan's paramilitary troops Frontier Corps (FC) personnel were engaged in border fencing activity along the border in Zhob district of the province, the military's media wing Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement. (Pakistan-Afghanistan-Attack)

DAMASCUS -- One civilian was killed and six others wounded when Israeli missiles hit several military sites in Syria's northwestern coastal city of Latakia on Wednesday, state news agency SANA reported.
The attack, which took place before daybreak, prompted the Syrian air defenses to respond, destroying some of the missiles, according to the report. (Syria-Israel-Missile)

JAKARTA -- The COVID-19 cases in Indonesia rose by 5,285 within one day to 1,691,658, with the death toll adding by 212 to 46,349, the Health Ministry said on Wednesday.
According to the ministry, 5,943 more people were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 1,547,092. (Indonesia-COVID-19)
