JERUSALEM, June 17 (Xinhua) -- Maccabi Tel Aviv on Thursday evening won the Israeli Basketball Premier League championship for the fourth time in a row and 55th overall.
The Euroleague side achieved a 73-67 home win against Hapoel Gilboa Galil, on the way to a 2-1 victory in the best-of-three final series.
In front of 11,000 fans at the Menorah Mivtachim Arena in Tel Aviv, the home team dominated the first quarter, thanks to points by Scottie Wilbekin on the way to a 24-15 lead after 10 minutes.
Maccabi increased the gap to 30-18 in the 13th minute, ending the first half with a 42-29 lead, with important points and assists by Chris Jones.
Maccabi ran to 53-31 at the beginning of the third quarter, but Isaiah Cousins helped Gilboa reduce the gap to 47-61 at the end of the third quarter.
The visitors gradually cut the gap to 60-63 with 3:11 on the clock, but Jones and Othello Hunter secured the win and the league title for Maccabi with crucial points.
Wilbekin led Maccabi scorers with 19 points, with Jones and Angelo Caloiaro adding 10 each.
Amit Gershon scored a team-high 14 points for the visitors. Yiftach Ziv added 11 points.
