23 Sep 2021, 04:30 GMT+10

JERUSALEM, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) -- The Israeli army said its drone fell in Syria on Wednesday, citing a malfunction as the cause of the crash.

"During a routine operation, a drone of the Israel Defense Forces fell in the Syrian territory following a technical malfunction," the military said in a statement, adding that the incident was being investigated.

Israel's Army Radio reported that the drone fell near the border between Israel and Syria when collecting intelligence, and the Israeli military was looking into whether information stored in it was compromised.

Israel has carried out numerous airstrikes in Syria, claiming they targeted the Iranian sites and weapons convoys to the Lebanese Hezbollah group.
